Wilderness is one of the legitimate uses of our public
lands. Montanans For Multiple Use is headquartered in the same
county as the Bob Marshall Wilderness which is the first congressionally
designated wilderness in America. There are several other
wilderness areas nearby. We have a long and favorable familiarity
with wilderness.
However, wilderness is only one of the legitimate uses
of public lands. Wildlife habitat, fishing, hunting, motorized and
non-motorized recreation, production of clean water, open space,
logging, mining, hydroelectric production and access to many other of
the commercial and non-commercial resources of these lands are all
appropriate uses.
No single use should dominate the land.
But wilderness and near-wilderness is becoming the
dominant use on public land throughout America but especially here in
the West. More than half of the land area in the Flathead National
Forest in our part of the country is dedicated to this single
use.
THAT IS MORE THAN ENOUGH!!!!
Yet environmental activists push for more with no end in
sight.
This section is dedicated to restoring balance among
public land use and thwarting any new wilderness areas or large
additions to existing ones.
