We have identified four immediate threats to
multiple use of public lands. Each of these threats involves
passing congressional legislation designating new wilderness.
The Northern Rockies
Ecosystem Protection
Act is the mother of all wilderness
bills. It locks up 25 million acres in just three states: Wyoming,
Idaho, and Montana. This bill could eliminate virtually all multiple
use on National Forests in these states. Go >HERE<
to learn more about this bill.
The Yaak Valley Forest Council is working on a bill that would
designate new wilderness in NW Montana. They are still drafting the
bill. A coalition was formed by YVFC and does
include some local government, recreation and timber stakeholders.
YVFC touts this as a jobs for wilderness bill. To learn more about YVFC and
see the latest version of the bill that we have been able to obtain go

The Beaverhead-Deerlodge
Partnership Strategy
was produced by a collaborative group of environmentalists and timber
companies that has completed a legislative proposal and is in the
process of recruiting public support and congressional sponsors.

The Blackfoot Challenge
is a well funded organization that has also produced a wilderness
bill. They are very secretive about their work and we can find
nothing on their website about it. Go >HERE<

we do know.
These bills have been combined into one bill sponsored by
Senator Tester in the Senate. To learn more about S 1470 go >>HERE<<
