The Wildlands Project in
Montana
The Winton Wedemeyer Wilderness
The Montana Wilderness Association is
proposing a 171,000 acre wilderness in NW Montana that would encompass
most of the land between Eureka and Glacier Park, from the Canadian border
to Fortine.
The brochure that proposes this new
wilderness opens with a letter of praise
from Secretary of State and Republican gubernatorial candidate, Bob Brown
for Winton Wedemeyer, a Fortine rancher, conservationist and leader of MWA.
MWA is honoring Wedemeyer's memory by naming their proposed wilderness
after him.

ALERT::: On
June 14, 2005 the Flathead National Forest produced maps that reveal its
intention to recommend most of the Wedemeyer that lays within the
FNF boundary for wilderness. This official recommendation will
be accompanied with management directives identical to
Congressionally designated wilderness and will remain
indefinitely. IN OTHER
WORDS WILDERNESS RECOMMENDATION BY FNF WILL BYPASS THE WILL OF THE
PEOPLE AS EXPRESSED BY CONGRESS AND CREATE WILDERNESS WITHOUT THE
CONSENT OF THE GOVERNED. At first the
Kootenai went along with this wilderness scheme by recommending most
of the Northern Whitefish Range and Ten Lakes area for
wilderness. After a public outcry against the wilderness plans
the Kootenai has withdrawn the recommendation and placed these areas
in a new category of management they call "wildlands"
which is wilderness with a different name. IT
APPEARS THAT MWA HAS SUCCESSFULLY IMPLEMENTED ONE OF THEIR
SCHEMES FOR WILDERNESS.
THE ONLY QUESTION NOW IS
CAN WE GET THE COURTS OR CONGRESS TO STOP THIS OUTRAGEOUS AND
UNLAWFUL APPROPRIATION OF CONGRESSIONAL AUTHORITY?
