"It does not require a majority to prevail,
but rather an irate, tireless minority keen to set brush fires in people's minds."
--Samuel Adams - Leader in our Fight for Independence

Threats to Public Use

THREATS TO PUBLIC ACCESS AND USE
OF PUBLIC LANDS

The effort to restrict and deny access to our public lands is coming from several directions:

THE WILDLANDS PROJECT  (TWP) Official Wildlands Project Map           TWP was founded by Earth First founder, Dave Foreman, Michael Soule and Reed Noss.   They envision 50 % of North America locked up in wilderness and off limits to human use.  Most of the rest would be designated as buffer zones or wildlife corridors with restricted human use.  This will accomplished by a return to 19th century population levels and technology.  This project is being implemented incrementally.

ENDANGERED SPECIES ACT Grizzly bear is a tool to close roads.            The ESA was originally intended to protect essential species from extinction.  The proliferation of listed species which are simply scarce in a local area or slightly different from a non-threatened cousin has transformed ESA into a tool to close public lands and extend federal control to private land.

TOP DOWN MANAGEMENT OF FEDERAL AGENCIES            Local needs and desires are disregarded by federal agencies and national environmental groups in the planning and management of public lands.
