"It does not require a majority to prevail,
but rather an irate, tireless minority keen to set brush fires in people's minds."

SNOWMOBILE BANS AND RESTRICTIONS

SNOMOBILE IN HIGH PEAKS

Like other users of public land, snowmobilers are being targeted by the environmental conflict industry for restriction, regulation and eventual banishment from public lands.

In Montana we have already seen their expulsion from Yellowstone N.P.. Although this has not yet been finalized, it is going forward.   Go to our Yellowstone pages to learn more about the new regulations in the park.

On the Flathead in Northwest Montana, greens sued to remove snowmobilers from their favorite winter playgrounds. In lieu of a judicial decree, the green litigants, the snowmobilers and the Flathead Forest management have agreed to a negotiated settlement supervised by the judge. Even before the details were released, the result was ballyhooed by the negotiators as a good collaborative effort that has something for everybody. The truth is that, according to forest service employees and the snowmobile access maps, old and new, the snowmobilers have lost 98% of the Flathead Forest acreage in the North Fork and large acreages in other areas of the FNF as well.

The settlement went through the NEPA process to be incorporated as an amendment to the Flathead Forest Plan. That process is complete.  Comments have been  solicited; meetings have been held; and a decision made, all under the close watch of federal district court Judge Malloy, a friend of the greens and enemy of the people.

These pages will be updated as this crucial battle unfolds.  Please stay informed and get involved.
