The dark green areas are designated wilderness like the Cabinets

The dark brown areas are inventoried roadless areas that are recommended by the Kootenai NF for wilderness.

The orange-brown areas are inventoried roadless areas where roads cannot be built.

The light brown areas are inventoried roadless areas where roads can be built but the approval process is very involved.

The light blue areas are non-roadless National Forest areas where roads are allowed.
