Access for all Americans to our public lands
Access is becoming more and more
restricted by state and federal environmental regulations. Multiple
use of our forests is being replaced by no use. Follow the links
below to learn more about specific threats to free public access.
 | Roadless Rule This proposed rule change
has replaced the Clinton Roadless Rule which would have locked out the very young, the elderly and the handicapped
from more than half of our National Forest. The new rule will
allow the governor of each state to make requests of the Secretary of
Agriculture for changes in roadless management. This could mean fewer
roadless areas with less restrictions if a governor requests that.
Montana's governor is not likely to request more access unless there is a
great outcry from the people to force his hand. Therefore MFMU has
presented a petition to Governor Schweitzer
with over 7800 signatures asking the governor
to release these lands for multliple use. In the meantime another
federal judge has overturned the Bush Rule and reinstated the
Clinton Rule. |
