Fire Hazard Map

In July of this year,  MFMU invited the Forest Service and other concerned stakeholders to discuss fire hazard reduction on the Flathead Forest.  FS brought a map that the showed the fire hazard assessment  for the Flathead.  The map was mostly red indicating that most of the forest was at high risk for a catastrophic fire.

When building this page I asked for a copy of that map and was told they did not have any but that they were remaking the map and overlaying it on another map that indicates whether or not the land is within the historical fire regime parameters.

The Fire Regime map is mostly green indicating that the most of the forest is within normal range for fire hazard.  Therefore the forest service seems to be stating that high risk of catastrophic fire is the normal condition for the Flathead National Forest.

That is unacceptable to Montanans For Multiple Use.  We think the people have the right to know the extent of the fire risk on their forest and to demand that the forest be managed according to the will of the people and not the will of the environmentalist minority.

Therefore, we will do whatever it takes to get the Fire Hazard Map that we saw at the July meeting and display it on this page.
